You’re probably fed up with receiving emails from so many organisations asking you to opt in again to continue hearing from them. This is all to do with the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) which come into force this Friday (25th May 2018).
We’ve updated our privacy notice at www.site-street.com/privacy-notice/ which outlines what data we store or process and how we comply with these new regulations.
In a nutshell, we don’t send general marketing emails and don’t hold a marketing database. We only contact you with information relating to products or services you have purchased.
If we host your website then you need to know that we’ve got everything in place to make sure that it all conforms to the GDPR. We’ve always had these in place, we’ve just gone through the process of confirming they meet the regulations.
We’d like to also let you know about some helpful information to assist you with your own compliance.
If you have a website built on Wordpress, the latest update includes some key features specifically for GDPR. These include links to your privacy policy when people register with you and the ability for members to check their details or request to be deleted.
Another thing people are concerned about is SSL. This is where a certificate is installed on the website so that visitors browse to it through an encrypted connection. A number of sites we host already have SSL installed. If yours doesn’t, please get in touch and we can discuss adding this for you. Depending on the plan you’re on, it may even be completely free but might require us migrating you onto a newer, more powerful hosting server.
If you’re struggling with getting your policies written or updated, here’s a great resource which I’m sure will be very helpful.
